We are the renewable materials company!
The renewable materials company, Stora Enso develops and produces solutions based on wood and biomass for a range of industries and applications worldwide.
Building on our heritage and know-how in forestry and trees, Stora Enso is committed to the development of products and technologies based on renewable materials and creating value in a sustainable bioeconomy. Our products, in many cases, provide a low-carbon alternative to many products made from fossil-based or other non-renewable materials.
Today our solutions are found in such segments as building, retail, food and beverages, manufacturing, publishing, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, confectionary, hygiene and textiles. Tomorrow, we believe there is the potential to produce anything that’s made with fossil-based materials from a tree.
Addressing global warming, growing populations, urbanisation, eco-awareness and changing consumer tastes and demands, Stora Enso is in a unique position to drive a transition to a greener world.
With renewable materials at the foundation, our solutions for paper, packaging, wooden construction and biomaterials are today found across continents and industries. We are active in sectors such as building, retail, food and beverages, manufacturing, publishing, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, confectionary, hygiene and textiles.
Anything made from fossil-based materials today can be made from a tree tomorrow
This is our business idea. In coming years, wood- and bio-based solutions will be used in all sorts of new ways. Next-generation modular building systems based on trees to reduce the use of concrete, biocomposites from trees to reduce the need for fossil polymers in plastics, and lignin from trees to replace phenol in glues. We can make products smart, for example, with our solutions for intelligent packaging. These are just a few examples that are already in development.
Building on this, we serve companies and brands, big and small, in meeting their visions and challenges to stay competitive and satisfy demands for responsible, eco-friendly solutions. We offer renewable materials with state-of-the-art know-how, global reach, high precision value chain and superior customer support.
Being responsible – doing good for the people and the planet – underpins our thinking and our approach in every aspect of business.
Biomaterials division offers a wide variety of pulp grades to meet the demands of paper, board, tissue, textile and hygiene product producers. We also develop new ways to maximise the value extractable from the wood as well as other kinds of lignocellulosic biomasses. The extracted sugars and lignin hold potential for use in a range of applications.

Visit Packaging Website41% of the world’s packaging is plastic. Right now, 10 million tonnes of plastic is floating around the North Pacific Ocean, covering an area the size of Texas, and causing serious problems for animals and biodiversity. Customers around the world place their trust in Stora Enso to deliver the very best in innovative, sustainable packaging solutions that add value along the entire packaging chain. It's time to start using more sustainable materials.
Every time you pour a glass of milk or grab a coffee to go, you hold a piece of processed wood in your hands. You probably knew that already. But did you know that from one pine tree, you can make 3,300 one-litre milk cartons?
We provide innovations for everyday living. As urban populations grow, there is a rising demand for environmentally friendly, high-capacity homes. Thanks to Stora Enso’s Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), wood can replace concrete in small and large buildings resulting in better indoor climates and neutral carbon footprints.
Wood is our most important raw material for the production of pulp, paper, packaging and boards as well as wood products. From just one tree, you can make over 30,000 sheets of paper.
The eucalyptus flower was the inspiration for our logo. The flower symbolises sustainable raw material. Eucalyptus actually has growing importance for Stora Enso’s global pulp production.
Stora Enso today supplies a third of all the raw materials for the world’s liquid packaging board needs. It is very likely that you have held one of our products in your hands, be it the paper in a newspaper or a juice carton.
The paper industry is sometimes accused of cutting down rainforests. In Stora Enso, we never log rainforests. Instead, we preserve rainforests, and grow eucalyptus trees on formerly degraded pastureland. In Brazil, Veracel, a joint venture of Stora Enso and Fibria owns 211,000 hectares of land. 50% of the land is protected to preserve and regenerate the native rainforest in the region!
